Seven cards in an arc. The classic middle-sized spread: more than three cards of context, without the ten-card commitment of a Celtic Cross.
The Horseshoe sits exactly where most readings actually want to be. Three cards is often too thin for a real situation and the Celtic Cross is more material than most questions deserve. Seven is the size at which a spread can hold a past, a present, an obstacle, an outside influence and an outcome without any of them getting lost.
How to read it: work along the arc, but read positions 3 and 5 as a pair before anything else. What you are hiding from yourself and what other people are contributing are the two positions people consistently skip, and they are usually where the reading is.
The outcome position is the arc's end, not its verdict. It follows from the six cards before it. If you do not like it, the useful question is which of the earlier six you have the most leverage over.
Common mistake: treating this as Past/Present/Future with four extra cards bolted on. The Horseshoe is a situation described from seven angles at once, and only the first two are about time at all.
