How it works
No mystique about the mechanism
Knowing exactly how the cards get chosen makes a reading more useful, not less. Here is the whole thing.
How a reading works
Four steps, no mystique
The mechanism is not a secret. Knowing exactly how the cards are chosen makes the reading more useful, not less.
Ask something answerable
Questions starting with "what" or "how", about you. "What am I not seeing here?" beats "will it work out?" and the site will nudge you toward the first kind.
Choose a spread
One card for a specific question, three for a situation, ten if you genuinely need the whole picture. Each spread page says what it is for and when not to use it.
The shuffle is real
All 78 cards, every one with the same chance of arriving, and a real coin flip for each reversal. You cannot see the cards before they land and neither can we.
Read it, then write it down
You get a full interpretation per position plus what the spread says as a whole. Save it, add your own notes, and check back in a month. That loop is where the learning is.
The shuffle, specifically
Your cards are chosen here rather than on your own machine, and every card has exactly the same chance of arriving as every other. Not approximately the same chance: the same. Getting that genuinely even is harder than it sounds, and most of the care in this part of the site went into it.
Reversals are an independent coin flip per card, because a real deck shuffled with rotation reverses roughly half the time. You can turn them off before any draw.
The collective daily card works differently on purpose. It is worked out from the date itself, so everybody who visits today genuinely gets the same card, and it stays that card all day no matter what happens at our end.
Where the interpretation comes from
Each card's meaning is written out in full on its own page, and that writing is what every reading here is built from. On top of the individual cards, a reading adds what it can see in the whole spread: the major/minor ratio, suit dominance, a suit that never appeared, repeated numbers across suits, how the reversals fell. Those are the observations an experienced reader makes first, and they are the ones you cannot look up.
None of that involves AI, here or anywhere else on the site. The reading then looks at the joins between the cards: which elements sit beside each other, whether a Major landed next to a minor, numbers or suits that repeat. That is where most of a spread’s meaning lives, and it is the part nobody can write in advance. A card meaning can be written once. Three cards from 78 with reversals is 3.6 million different spreads, so what they say to each other has to be worked out when you draw.
The limits, stated plainly
- No diagnoses, and no comment on medication. See a doctor.
- No predictions of death, and no pregnancy claims.
- No advice on legal cases. See a solicitor.
- No claims to report another person's private thoughts. A reading can describe a dynamic as it reaches you; it cannot read a third party's mind.
- No reading is presented as a certainty. Cards describe shapes and trajectories.
For reflection and entertainment. Not medical, legal, or financial advice.
Getting the most out of it
Ask a question starting with what or how, about you. Use a small spread. Do not redraw because you dislike the answer. Write it down, and check back in a month. That loop is the only real feedback tarot has.
Questions
Straight answers, without the mystique.
Yes, all of it, right now. All 78 card meanings, every spread guide, the whole Learn Tarot course and the daily card are free and always will be, and nothing else on the site is restricted either. A membership exists and can be bought, but it does not currently withhold anything from anybody.
No. Readings here use a full 78-card deck, shuffled here rather than on your own machine. If you do own a deck, the card pages and journal work just as well as a reference for physical readings, plenty of people use the site that way.
Yes. Every card has exactly the same chance of arriving as every other, and each reversal is decided separately. Nothing is weighted toward the pleasant cards. The one exception is the collective daily card, which is worked out from the date itself so that everybody genuinely sees the same card.
You can start a new reading, but we would gently suggest not doing it on the same question. Redrawing until you get an answer you already agreed with makes the whole exercise pointless. Sit with the difficult card. It is usually the useful one.
We do not claim it does, and this site is not built as if it does. A reading describes the shape of a situation and its trajectory. That is genuinely useful and it is not prophecy. Nothing here should be treated as a forecast of events.
No. Every card meaning here was written by a person before you arrived. A reading puts that writing together according to your own spread, and adds what it can see across the whole of it: how the elements sit beside each other, how many trumps came up, which suit dominates, repeated numbers, Aces, court cards. That is why no two readings read the same, and none of it was written by an AI.
You can ask, and you will get a reflective reading. What you will not get is a diagnosis, a financial recommendation or legal advice. No reading here will offer any of those, and it will point you at somebody qualified instead. That is deliberate.
Private by default. Readings and journal entries are visible only to you unless you explicitly change an individual item to public or unlisted. Deleting your account removes your readings, journal and comments entirely.
Fewer than you want to. One card answers a specific question better than ten, and a ten-card spread on a small question produces seven cards of noise you will then find meaning in. Start with one or three.
One that starts with "what" or "how", and is about you. "What am I not seeing about this offer?" works. "Will he call?" does not. It is predictive and about someone else's behaviour.
You can turn them off before any draw. If you are new, we suggest starting upright-only and adding reversals once the upright meanings feel automatic. Plenty of professional readers never use them at all.
It is stored with the cards, their positions, the interpretation and your notes, and it counts toward your reading streak. You can add notes to it later, link a journal entry to it, or share it by link if you choose to.
